We Have Belongings

Before we left New York City a very nice man came out to our apartment and helped us pack up about 1000 pounds of our personal belongings so that we could ship them to Abu Dhabi. That shipment included our bed, dining table and chairs,  everything from our kitchen, artwork, and most of the things that make a house feel like a home. It arrived on Monday.

Suddenly our apartment in Sama Tower feels like where we (will) live.

We have silly attachments to our possessions. The first “real” thing Beth and I ever bought together was our dining table and the four chairs. We picked it out on Overstock.com, but were surprised to learn we hadn’t accurately read the dimensions once it arrived. It wasn’t a regular height kitchen table. It was designed to be more of a hallway table and so came up to about mid-chest height when you sat down at it. Luckily, we were able to find some nice constructions workers in our building we could quickly sheer off about 6-8 inches from the legs. Now, it’s the perfect table for us.

Beth had been in the other room when I put it together. When she came back in, she immediately exclaimed, “Our table! We’re home!” Truer words were never spoken.

Of course, there are still a few growing pains in the new place as well. It wasn’t until our kitchen stuff arrived that we realized that we don’t have any drawers. We now need to find some ingenious way of storing all our cutlery, kitchen utensils, etc. We’re considering adding some shelving/storage in our “dining area” but need to measure again carefully before committing.

This post also includes pictures of the new glassware and TV that I described in previous post.

Yesterday featured a trip to IKEA with more money spent on an entertainment center, desk for the office, desk chair, and light fixtures. All of that will be delivered this Wednesday, so stay tuned for pictures.
